While the 2023 festival contained a number of UK premieres, some of the films shown have had disappointingly few screenings. With your help, we want to change that. Please contact us if you would like to arrange a screening of a film contained in the 2023 (or previous editions) of the festival!

Although we cannot offer financial support, we can offer advice on arranging a film screening, co-curate a film selection, assist with the practical side of putting on an event, and more. Please email us at: themigrationcollective[at] gmail.com or themigrationcollective[at]protonmail.com with your ideas!

Submissions open for the 9th edition of London Migration Film Festival on 1 April 2024!

our programming

London Migration Film Festival includes fiction, short and documentary films focussing on the intersection of migration with themes such as climate emergency, integration, parenthood, race, gender, and mortality (the list could go on).

With the aim of portraying the diversity and humanity of migration, our film selection deliberately reflects the many forms in which migration takes place.

We include films directly contributing to today’s debates: from the intersection between migration and climate emergency to the experience of members of the LGBTQI+ community fleeing dictatorships; from second generation young people trying to reconcile multiple identities to deep dives into the link between race and migration, we are showcasing stories that portray the vast humanity inbuilt within migration.

The festival’s programme includes light-hearted films, that remind us that there is happiness in movement, and we intentionally choose films focusing on diverse parts of the world and migratory routes, in order to challenge the expectation that most people move from the Global South to the Global North.

London Migration Film Festival includes both films by established artists and directors as well as films by less known filmmakers who use new perspectives to analyse migration and refugee issues. In order to raise the profile and provide a platform for migrant filmmakers, we include films that were directed, produced and starred in by migrants.

In the past years we have learned a thing or two: we love nothing more than live events, chatting with festival-goers after the screenings, developing projects and events in collaboration with venue managers all over London, and showcasing the amazing work of filmmakers from all over the world.

We have also learned that digital can help us connect with people who wouldn't come to the cinema: we are thinking of the thousands of people who visited our online pages and programmes since March 2020, many of whom from as far away from London as the imagination can get.

Therefore, London Migration Film Festival includes two main selections: in-person events across London venues, accompanied by two weeks of online screening and a dedicated online programme accessible across the world.
